Ser Harwin used to tell him tales of his mother and her abilities, of the magic that ran in her veins because she had been a direct descendant of the First Men. She had been a warg but more specifically a skinchanger. Though he knew of their true relation, it never occurred to him that he, too, could possess the same power because he believed the blood of the dragon was the one that won out. That was, until he found himself in the air staring down at his own dragon and his own slumped over body.
(Or: Luke is both his mother's and his father's son and their blood runs true, as did their ideals, and his actions may have just stopped a war or worsened it.)
