Defying the predictions of the dead sea scrolls, the Angels have put a hiatus on their war against Humanity and for the past four years, life has moved on. Shinji has grown out of his shy, scared self and now appears to be a healthy young man, but has, for unknown reasons to those around him, become hostile towards Rei. Touji is now the fourth and the Angels have returned.
